What's a GizzleHopper?

The GizzleHopper is the re-creation of the original AA Competition Coupe run by the Perrenot family from late 1960 through 1962. It has a 1958 430 CI Lincoln engine and a 1931 Bantam Coupe body.

The GizzleHopper first raced in the AA Gas Competition Coupe & Sedan Class under AHRA rules. In 1961, the GizzleHopper car won its class at the AHRA World Championship Drags in Green Valley, Texas. This car also bettered the NHRA ET record in 1961 for A Gas Modified Coupe class in Victoria, Texas.

In 1962, they began running nitro, and the GizzleHopper finished runner up at the 1962 race at Green Valley in the AA Fuel Comp Coupe & Sedan class. Later that year, the car was totaled while racing at the old fairgrounds race track in Oklahoma City. The driver broke an axle, switched lanes, hit the cyclone fence, flipped the car onto its roof for a short distance and then back onto two wheels. The car was totaled.

Today, the re-created GizzleHopper runs the nostalgia circuit at various drag strips around Texas, Oklahoma and  elsewhere.

Living Legends of Drag Racing

The "Living Legends of Drag Racing" is an alliance of historic drag racing car owners located in the South Central and Southern portions of the United States.  The cars represent the "Golden age of Drag Racing"  which runs from the late 1950's to the early 1070's which was the advent of the rear engine dragster.

The cars range from "Survivor" cars, those which have survived in tact from when they were last raced, the "Restored" cars those which have a large portion of the original car and have been restored as close to the original as possible, the "Recreated" cars those which have been built new from the ground up to be as close as possible to the car that was originally reaced, and the "Period Replicas" which are cars built new but do not represent actual cars of the era however, does reflect the style of the period.

In the past these cars were usually only seen in museums but this new concept has brought the history of drag racing to life with cars that actually run.  This gives the fans the opportunity to not only see he cars they remember or have only heard about but, to experience the sound, the fire and smell of the nitromethane racing fuel!  These cars are refered to as "Cacklecars" in drag racing vernacular which describes the "cackling" sound made by a nitromethane burning engine.

Currently the alliance has 20 plus members and increases by two or three cars each year.  The main purpose of the alliance was to establish communications among the members but recently has become a contact point for event directors from car shows and racing events to secure cars for their shows and events.
